Custom medical plans

Our custom plans give employers the flexibility to create benefit solutions that include a choice of Indemnity, HRA, and PPO medical plans, coupled with specialized products and services that enhance their overallinternational benefit offerings. Our plans provide portable and comprehensive worldwide medical coverage, so expatriate employees can access care from the provider of their choice -- anywhere in the world.

Traditional Choice® (Indemnity)
With an indemnity plan, employees can access care for covered services from the provider of their choice, without the inconvenience of referrals. Employees are responsible for seeking care, initiating pre-certification (where applicable), paying for services and submitting claims for reimbursement.

Employee out-of-pocket expenses, such as deductibles and coinsurance, must be satisfied before benefits are paid. Benefit maximums and lifetime maximums also apply.

The Aetna HealthFund® Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA)
The Aetna HealthFund HRA plan is a simple, three-part plan that helps employees take charge of their own health as well as their health care spending. Employees receive a fund at the beginning of each year, to help them pay for medical expenses. Under the Aetna HealthFund HRA plan, employees are also free to choose the doctors and services that fit their individual needs.

Preventive care is covered at 100%, and a deductible applies before plan coverage begins. After the fund is depleted and the deductible is met, remaining eligible health expenses are covered according to the plan coverage level.

Open Choice® Preferred Provider Organization (PPO)
The PPO plan also gives members the choice to seek care from any provider they choose. However, members who may return to the United States while on assignment (or foreign nationals on assignment in the U.S.) can receive significant discounts when they visit doctors or hospitals that participate in Aetna's U.S. provider network. One of the most extensive networks in the U.S. today, it includes doctors and hospitals approved and recruited by Aetna to offer quality care at pre-negotiated rates. In addition, plans include benefits for services received outside the U.S. that can match or exceed those received while in an Aetna U.S. network -- so employees are not penalized when seeking care outside the U.S.

Dental

Quality dental coverage is more than a simple health benefit. It's an investment in employees’ total health – an investment that can result in increased productivity and lower overall health care costs.

For example, research shows a possible link between periodontal disease and certain ongoing health conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease. It may also be connected to other conditions such as premature labor. The good news is that routine dental care can have a positive effect on these conditions, because it allows for the early identification and treatment of dental problems.

We offer quality dental coverage for globally-mobile employees. Employers havefour dental plans to choose from -- including both our standard and lower-cost preventive plans. This allows them to find the best plan for their employee population.

Dental Indemnity Plan
Employees can visit any licensed dentist for preventive care, basic and major services. Depending on the plan selected, services are generally subject to deductibles, coinsurance and annual and lifetime maximums. Claim forms may also be required.

Dental PPO Plan
Employees have the freedom to visit any licensed dentist for preventive, basic and major services -- with additional savings when they use a participating U.S. provider.

Aetna Dental Preventive CareSM Indemnity Plan
Employees enjoy the freedom to visit any licensed dentist for preventive and diagnostic services. They simply pay the dentist the full amount at the time of service, and then submit a claim for reimbursement. Employees can also enjoy discounts on restorative care, teeth whitening and adult orthodontia.

Aetna Dental Preventive CareSM PPO Plan
Similar to the Dental PPO plan, the Dental Preventive Care PPO plan offers coverage for preventive and diagnostic services such as dental exams, cleanings and X-rays. Employees can also enjoy discounts on restorative care, teeth whitening and adult orthodontia, and benefit from additional savings when they use a participating U.S. provider.

Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Personal Loss

Our Term Life product is a low-cost, high-value addition to any benefits package. It offers essential financial protection for employees and their dependents, and is available as earnings-based or in flat amounts.

Our Accidental Death and Personal Loss coverage is included in certain medical plans. It offers additional financial security if an employee experiences an accident while on assignment.

Long Term Disability

Our Long Term Disability (LTD) insurance is designed to replace a reasonable portion of employees’ earnings, should they lose all or part of their income as a result of a disabling illness or injury.

International Employee Assistance Program

Personal issues shouldn’t detract from an employee’s health or assignment, however, challenges can arise. This can be especially true when facing the cultural adjustment issues that can be associated with an international relocation.

Our International Employee Assistance Program (IEAP) can help employees and their families address issues that may arise while on assignment. Services include 24-hour crisis intervention, up to five counseling sessions (in person or by telephone) per plan year, management consultation, Web-based health and wellness information and self-assessment tools.

Pharmacy

By combining pharmacy benefits with your medical plan, you’re creating a total benefits solution that can help you manage your health care costs. Our pharmacy plan offers employees the flexibility of filling prescriptions at virtually any pharmacy in the world. When the prescription is filled, the employee simply submits a claim to us for reimbursement.

Employees who seek pharmacy benefits in the United States have access to Aetna's extensive U.S. retail pharmacy network. The network includes the U.S., the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam. Employees can also receive up to a 12-month supply of covered medications before leaving on assignment. Employees or dependents who reside in the United States also have access to Aetna's mail-order pharmacy, the Aetna Rx Home Delivery® program. This program offers up to a 90-day supply of covered medications, providing the prescription is issued by a United States board-certified medical professional.

Vision

An employee’s overall health and wellness is critical to a successful, productive assignment—especially when it comes to their eyesight. Our vision program includes coverage for eye exams under our medical plans. It also features a separate eyewear benefit for lenses, frames and contact lenses. This benefit provides a flat dollar amount that can be applied toany type of eyewear purchase. Additionally, employees and dependents who reside in the United States have access to the Aetna VisionSM discount program, regardless of whether a vision benefit is included in their medical plan.
