Be well. Be happy. Aetna hosts successful first employee wellness day in Dubai

The Aetna International Dubai office recently held its first quarterly wellness day for employees.

The day was designed to celebrate workplace safety and encourage people to improve their health knowledge and make healthier lifestyle choices.

Employees arrived at the office on Sunday morning — the first day of the working week in the Middle East — to find a healthy breakfast treat at their desk. The accompanying note from David Healy, General Manager, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Aetna International encouraged employees to attend the safety and well-being seminars throughout the day.

Supported by the tagline “Be well. Be happy”, the wellness day’s interactive agenda included:

  • First aid techniques and training, which covered burns, fainting, choking, cuts and wounds — delivered by Dubai-based Aetna doctors, Dr Charushila Thadani and Dr Tasmia Tahmeed
  • Mediclinic biometrics screenings and results discussions with clinicians to provide employees with personalised health and wellness advice to help avoid future health risks:

o   Body Mass Index
o   Cholesterol testing
o   Blood pressure
o   Blood sugar
o   Height and weight measurements
o   General health questions

“At Aetna International, we believe that building healthier communities will help people live well for longer, achieving their health goals and getting the best possible health outcomes if they do fall ill. Ensuring the health, well-being and safety of our employees is just as important as helping our members access and experience quality care and the best possible health outcomes. The large turnout at this quarterly Aetna employee event is a testament to our commitment to building a healthier world from the inside, out,” says David Healy, GM, Aetna International.

The employee wellness day will be held on a regular basis throughout the year.
