The Spanish health care system, el Systema Nacional de Salud, ranks highly in the world (ranked the fifth best system out of 191 countries, according to the Dale Health scale). You’ll qualify for state health care in Spain if you have a social security number — either because you work for a Spanish company, or are registered as self-employed within the country. If you hold a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), you’ll have access to state-provided medical treatment. But some issues do exist.
