An expat's guide to Brazil

  • With vibrant cities, idyllic white beaches and dramatic jungles, Brazil offers a wonderful blend of history, natural beauty and modern locations. Covering 5.2 million square miles (8.5 million sq km), Brazil is the fifth-largest country in the world.

From Christ the Redeemer at the summit of Mount Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro to Manaus, the gateway to the Amazon rainforest, Brazil boasts some of the most spectacular views in the world. Coupled with incredible biodiversity of the various environments, the country is a nature lover’s paradise.

The official language of Brazil is Portuguese, but it is different from the version that is used in Portugal. English and Spanish are sometimes used in cities and in business, but expats should aim to learn Portuguese as soon as possible.
