Aetna sponsors Dubai Cares 10th Walk for Education
This February, Dubai Creek Park was covered in a sea of violet, teal and cranberry balloons (Aetna’s brand colours), as families and colleagues across the UAE united for the common goal of increasing the quality of and access to education worldwide.
"We were delighted to support such a wonderful cause," said David Healy, CEO for EMEA. "I was glad to see our staff and their families participate in great numbers." David’s own family attended the walk.
Aetna employees and their families totalled more than 150, sporting their Aetna polo shirts as they cheerfully passed out environmentally-friendly balloons and wrist bands to eager children and their parents.
This is Aetna’s second time as a headline sponsor for the Dubai Cares event. More than 15,000 people joined the 10th annual event, which raises funds and awareness for education. The event encourages participants to help "send a loud and clear message to the world about the importance of providing children and youth with safe access to school." To date, the philanthropic organisation has launched education programs reaching over 16 million beneficiaries in 45 developing countries.
The walk was three kilometres, signifying the distance many children must walk to get to school each day. An Emirati band of bagpipers and drummers serenaded people as they walked.
"This was my first experience at the Dubai Cares Walk," said Eileen Boncodin, an Aetna claims benefit specialist. "I brought my 7-year-old nephew and we marched with the Aetna banner. It was a nice experience because there were a lot of other companies participating in this activity and I was proud to represent Aetna."
