Running for the skies: Aetna sponsors M1 Run vertical race in Dubai
Aetna recently sponsored the 5th annual vertical M1 Run race up 33 floors of Media One Hotel (home to the Aetna Dubai office), which took place in early February. The annual challenge is designed to promote health and fitness in Dubai and helps local city residents get the new year off to a healthy start.
This year, the high-stamina event attracted more than 200 runners. The race began outside the tower and then up 33 flights of stairs and covered a total distance of 1.2 kilometers. Foot massages, courtesy of Aetna, awaited tired runners at the finish line.
The annual event is open to individuals and groups. Fourteen Aetna employees took part including Wee Ching Soh, a new joiner to Aetna’s actuarial team. He said, "I finished in 15 minutes while the first-place runner finished in 9 minutes…so I didn’t win any prizes, but the foot massage was great." Another Aetna participant, Marcos Evangelista, took part for the third year in a row. "It was my best year," said Marcos. "I have shaved 10 minutes off my time since my first year running it. It’s an excellent workout challenge!"
