Demonstrating our health-forward approach to member care in Canada

At Aetna International, it’s our privilege and purpose to make the health care experience for expatriates exceptionally local, personal, simple and responsive no matter where they are in the world.

On May 22, we shared details of that health-forward approach with our Canadian broker partners at a breakfast forum held at the Canoe Restaurant in Toronto.

Dr Stella George, head of Americas Care Management, described the work of our Care and Response Excellence (CARE) team, which provides highly personalised care from our compassionate, expert clinicians. Thanks to our team’s dedication, members get the care they need — where and when they need it — as we guide them throughout their entire health journey.

Dr George explained to brokers how we’re using data analytics to identify members with acute and chronic conditions in need of more personalised intervention. That’s offered by our In Touch Care program, giving members a single point of contact with a highly experienced registered clinician who serves as their “go-to” person for all critical needs. We’re improving health outcomes by engaging members with conversations about their health, providing wellness resources and encouraging them to take an active role in their own health.

The broker event also featured a talk by Jason McCormick, Head of Sales and Service for Canada, who described our growth across the country and our Canadian team’s goals for the future. And Megan Wentzel, Americas Head of Human Resources, led an informal group discussion about key concerns involving care access and health issues. During the chat she fleshed out the elements of “Fit for Duty” — our new health and wellness education campaign that offers employers and employees alike real-life tips on such topics as mental health concerns, improving sleep, living heart-healthy, fitness strategies and diabetes care.

“This forum was a great opportunity to meet with our valued brokers in Canada, share our approaches and show them how we’re working hard to keep our members healthy and happy,” says McCormick, who was joined at the broker forum by Mike Delamere, Americas General Manager, Aetna International, and members of our sales and account management staff.

Dr George also talked about our care management approaches the next day at an annual conference organised by Asinta — the strategic global partnership of independent employee benefits advisors who offer support to each other when their clients need compliant, equitable, cost-effective benefits in a foreign land. Hosted in Toronto by Cowan Insurance Group, our partner in Canada, this year’s conference theme was “Disability management: A global perspective.” Dr George shared her expertise in managing medical diagnoses and claims from a cross-border perspective.
