Aetna International leaders deepen relationships and understanding of faith-based and non-profit organisation needs at annual forum

At our fifth annual faith-based and non-profit organisation customer forum, Aetna International leaders showed key customers in this vertical that we share more than just a business relationship. We are similarly driven by the spirit to serve.

Held on 23rd and 24th April at customer location Pioneers USA in Orlando, Florida, the event brought together 30 representatives from 10 customer organisations — double the number of participants compared to the inaugural event in 2015.

“This annual forum is a wonderful way to show our customers how much we value our relationships with them,” says Lisa Eveleth, Director of Sales and Service. “Personalised service is very important to them. And it’s essential that we hear firsthand feedback on what their members want and need — all whilst demonstrating that we share their dedication to mission and excellence in everything we do.”

A casual welcome reception at a nearby restaurant kicked off the event, giving everyone the opportunity to get to know each other better and engage in more meaningful dialogue during the forum presentations that followed.

A focus for this year was on our strategies for emergency response planning and medical evacuation. Dr. Lori Stetz, Senior Medical Director, shared a case study of the lifesaving care received by a mother and her baby in Asia Pacific. This sparked conversation about how our in-house Aetna Assistance medical evacuation programme works and got participants thinking about what emergency evacuation processes they have in place for their people when they travel abroad. We also presented an overview of our provider network, member digital resources, pharmacy setup and general operations.

The forum gave us the additional opportunity to put our shared values into action with a volunteer event for Clean the World — an international health organisation committed to improving quality of life for vulnerable communities across the globe. About 20 customer and Aetna International employee volunteers worked together to shred soap packaging by Unilever, which donated bars of soap for the organisation to repurpose. Through this activity we were able to give back to the local community and deepen customer relationships outside of the meeting room.

With more than 75,000 members, our faith-based and nonprofit sector makes up a significant presence of our customer base. Through events like this, we can extend our understanding of how to best support them.

Working with these customers has also challenged us to expand our network boundaries into more rural locations. This enhances our global network reach and offers better care access to members working in nonprofit and faith-based organisations as well as other sectors.
