vHealth shows its true value

It hasn’t been easy for anyone with health and wellbeing worries these last few months. Simple trips to the doctor have become a constant source of anxiety for people looking to minimise the risk of infection. And with social distancing now an important consideration, health care options have been much more limited.

Fortunately, Aetna international customers have had the benefit of vHealth — a free telemedicine service that provides easy access to experienced doctors, by telephone or video call. Instead of postponing appointments or delaying treatments, they have been able to get the health care support they need, without ever leaving the house.

Embracing the new normal

vHealth has been available in some regions for over a year now. But with the coronavirus reaching pandemic proportions, the service was extended to all Aetna customers in March. Initially, this was for a 90-day period, but after it had such a positive impact, many individuals and businesses asked to keep the service on a permanent basis.

With increased usage, perceptions have started to change too. Many customers now realise that a vHealth consultation is actually easier than a face-to-face appointment and just as effective. Rather than viewing it as an ancillary service, they are treating it as the normal way of doing things.

A healthy future

The number of Aetna customers using vHealth has increased exponentially year-on-year. It’s a trend that seems set to continue and with an average customer satisfaction score of 4.8/5, it’s clearly making a good impression.

Employers are enjoying the benefits too. A reduction in claims, absenteeism and the need to access in-person care have all helped to make the transition much easier for global businesses. Plus the statistics speak for themselves:

  • 86% of employees who use vHealth save themselves time away from the workplace
  • 3.8 hours (on average) are saved by having a vHealth appointment
  • 67% of employees who use vHealth do not need to access in-person care
