Ireland Insurance Business Transfer

This website provides information about the proposed transfer of the private medical insurance business of Aetna Health Insurance Company of Europe DAC (AHICE) to AWP Health & Life SA (AWP), an Allianz entity, operating through its Irish branch under Section 13 of the Assurance Companies Act 1909 (Transfer).

The Portfolio Transfer Process

Before the Transfer can proceed, it will require the approval (known as “Sanction”) of the High Court. If the High Court sanctions the Transfer, those insurance policies and liabilities in scope of the Transfer will automatically transfer to and become the responsibility of AWP from the date on which the Transfer takes legal effect.

Brian Morrissey of KPMG (the Independent Actuary) has been appointed to prepare a report on the effects of the Transfer on the policyholders of AHICE and AWP (the Report). Brian Morrissey, a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland, has prepared the Report and he has found that policyholders and other interested parties will not be materially adversely affected by the Transfer.
